About Esther

Hello! I'm Esther and I am a History tutor.

I have experience tutoring History in school and for private clients, following specific syllabi to help students achieve the highest grades they can. I am a prospective History student at UCL, and studied History at A-Level, studies within which I gained A* grades consistently and ranked 1st in my year group overall.

My topics of interest are namely the Cold War, America 1945-1989, the Tudors and Germany from Unification in 1863-1945. I also studied the History of Medicine as part of the GCSE specification.

I am a big reader and love writing, a fact which has certainly aided my academic prospects during school. I similarly studied English Literature A-Level and secured full marks in my GCSE examinations, meaning my essay-writing skills are very strong, and I am confident in my ability to write an excellent essay. I believe my own comfort with History as an academic subject, historiography, historical theory and writing abilities make me an extremely competent tutor.

I feel I learn best when teaching other people; I would love to help students discover their own academic potential, and encourage practice within the subject so that they become confident historians in their own right.

My approach to tutoring varies from student to student - I will cater wholly to the student's specific needs and help teach content this way. When it comes to essay writing, I believe that good grammar, punctuation and vocabulary are the foundations of a convincing argument, so will stimulate students to learn certain interchangeable words and phrases which can be incorporated in all written work to strengthen it significantly. I also like using visual aids, Microsoft Powerpoint and making personal revision resources to help students retain information in their own way.

Most importantly however is motivating and helping students to feel comfortable and able when studying history! Students often feel obliged to get good grades without enjoying or understanding the subject itself. I hope to inspire everyone to enjoy history and enjoy working towards achieving those grades on their own accord.
