About Carmela

Hello, my name is Carmela. I am a qualified English Teacher and a PhD student at UCL's Institute of Slavic and East European Studies, researching Soviet Nostalgia and East-West relationships.

As a qualified English teacher with extensive classroom and 1:1 experience, I am very confident with planning and delivering engaging lessons tailored according to students' needs. Having studied History and Literature throughout my academic career, I am a subject expert and I am passionate about sharing my knowledge with all of my students, regardless of their abilities, either by simplifying language or by constantly stretching and challenging students.

Over the years, I have developed a thorough understanding of how pupils learn and what can inhibit their development and I am able to support my students with both their academic and emotional needs, by boosting their confidence and teaching lessons focussed on exam requirements. I respond positively to feedback and suggestions and I am open to planning lessons that respond to the students' individual needs, always placing them at the centre. In addition to this, I am also very confident with supporting students with university essays and dissertations and, as a PhD student, I am also happy to help with drafting research proposals in the field of Humanities, Literature and Social Sciences.

Perfect! Carmela is an attentive and patient teacher with a lot to offer
I was looking for a tutor to help my son with his GCSE in history and feel very fortunate that we found Carmela. She is wonderful with young people, very patient and able to discuss complicated concepts in an accessible way. Her subject knowledge is first rate and she was always extremely professional and very well prepared.
