About Hannah
I am a second year student taking a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Leeds, where in my first year of study I achieved a first class mark. Whilst I am new to offering out my services as a tutor, I have previously tutored within my family - making sure on my gap year that my brother had the grades he needed to attend college. I also have a highly academic background with a great understanding of the curriculum and what exam boards look for, which has allowed me to achieve 11 A*s at GCSE level (including triple science) as well as 2 As, and then 4 As at A-Level which included Biology. I have also worked in some respect with all manner of age groups, from assisting with a primary school homework club right up to peer tutoring Year 12 students when I was in sixth form, and at all levels made myself disposable to help my peers if they were struggling with the material. I would now like to pass some knowledge on and help other younger students so they are able to take on the kind of opportunities I have had, regardless of background and especially in the current climate.

Although my focus is on offering tutoring for Biology, Chemistry and Physics at GCSE level, I studied English Literature at A-Level and so have previously peer-tutored in this as well. I feel confident to tackle most levels of capability, whether that be simply boosting a student from a 'fail' to passing level to help them meet requirements for their next academic step, or ensuring that a student knows how to go above and beyond to get those top marks if they have a very academic focus. I have picked up - and used myself - many methods of study that I would be able to pass on, after establishing what kind of learner a student is (I.e. visual, auditory, verbal etc); my teaching methodology would then involve incorporating the revision style that myself and the student decide is best for them, and make a plan for how we will work together, and then how they will study individually if they would like to set their aims very high. Depending on how close to an exam or end point they are, in the beginning this would mainly be focused on learning and understanding the content, with progress checks in the form of short formative tests. If the tutoring is focused towards exams, once the content has been better established we would then move towards more regular practise of past papers for the relevant exam board, with feedback to pinpoint weaknesses and see how they will be able to incorporate the marking criteria. I am comfortable working with all manner of students and generally find it easy to establish trust and a friendly environment that would make someone happy to learn, especially since I am freshly familiar with the kind of curriculum that schools offer.
