About Mickey

I’m a driven professional most recently serving as a Regional Organizing Director while also working to complete my undergraduate degree in Political Economy at Georgetown University. I am a National Merit Finalist, Eagle Scout, and relentless optimist. I excel at delivering results even in intense situations where stress burns hot and emotions run high. My yearslong involvement in the collegiate and community performing arts worlds is just one example of my familiarity with creatively collaborating with a large number of people towards one shared vision. In this context, I have particularly shined in leadership roles whether as a director giving feedback to actors to better hone their craft or as a stage manager keeping the production running on time and advocating for the well-being of the cast and crew. Whether on stage, backstage, or in the tech booth, I have always strived towards providing an excellent audience experience — no matter the obstacle the show must go on. While situated in a wildly different field, my professional career holds true to the same bedrock principles. As a Regional Organizing Director on a high-profile U.S. Senate race this past year, countless challenges were thrown at my team. Just as performing onstage, we had to be quick to adapt while also remaining mission-driven. In my management role, responsible for 4 full-time organizers, 3 part-time interns, and over 400 volunteers, I wore many hats: but none more satisfying than the one of coach. Every day I coached my team towards constantly improving their skills. And despite the sky-high stakes of control of the U.S. Senate and ticking away of the countdown clock towards Election Day, my team delivered. Other transferable experiences include leading my Boy Scout Troop as Senior Patrol Leader, teaching a class to HS freshmen as a Peer Mentor, and volunteering to teach tennis to players with Down’s Syndrome through the Buddy Up program.

About the lesson

While new to the Superprof platform, I'm not new to teaching and have held numerous leadership, coaching, and mentorship positions. I am unconditionally patient: willing to work through any problem no matter how difficult. I retain an excellent command and comprehension of the Spanish language but also remember what it was like to learn a second language for the first time. In addition to basic vocabulary and grammar, I am adeptly able to troubleshoot common pitfalls whether in pronunciation, conjugation, or improvisational speaking. At the more advanced end of the spectrum, I am able to talk through analysis of Spanish literature and media as well as Latin-American history, culture, and politics. I am comfortable tutoring students at the intermediate speaking level whether at the undergraduate level or below.
