About Jon

I tailor each lesson to the student's level, goals and learning style. Whether you are preparing for an exam, catching up on difficult material, improving your confidence, or simply want to become more comfortable using German or English, I aim to make every lesson focused, practical and engaging.

For German, I work on speaking, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing, adapting the balance according to what you need. I use conversation and authentic material wherever appropriate, while providing clear explanations of grammar and correcting mistakes constructively.

For English, I can help with written and spoken English, essay writing, comprehension, vocabulary and academic communication. My approach is particularly suited to students who want to develop both accuracy and confidence.

I also teach History and Politics, with particular emphasis on understanding rather than memorisation. I help students develop clear arguments, structure essays effectively, evaluate evidence and prepare for examinations.

Lessons are normally 60 minutes, although longer sessions can be arranged when useful. I teach GCSE and A Level students, university students and adults. My academic background includes advanced research in international politics and history, and I have experience communicating complex ideas clearly to people from different backgrounds.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to each student's level, goals and interests. I aim to create a relaxed but focused environment where students can ask questions, make mistakes and build confidence while making clear progress.

For German, I work on speaking, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing. I use conversation and authentic German material alongside structured exercises, adapting the balance to the student's needs. For beginners, this may mean building a strong foundation in pronunciation, vocabulary and everyday communication; for more advanced students, we can work towards greater fluency, accuracy and confidence.

For English, I can help with speaking and writing, grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, essay writing and academic communication. I particularly enjoy helping students become clearer and more confident writers.

For History and Politics, I focus on understanding rather than simply memorising information. Lessons can involve working through difficult topics, discussing competing interpretations, developing arguments, practising essay questions and learning how to use evidence effectively.

Lessons are normally 60 minutes, although longer sessions can be arranged where appropriate. I teach GCSE and A Level students, university students and adults, and I am happy to adapt lessons for examination preparation, general improvement or personal interest.
