About Izzy

I graduated from Goldsmiths College in London with a First Class Honours degree in Multi-Disciplinary Design in 2020. I particularly excelled in the written aspect of the course, consistently scoring above 80% and producing publishable standard academic writing. Coming from a multi-disciplinary background, I have skills in illustration, textiles and film to name a few, and can use this wide base of experience to advise students on how they can push their projects and portfolios beyond disciplinary boundaries.

My unique specialism is knitting, as a self taught machine knitter, I can offer tutorials to any students interested in exploring this area of textile design. I often loan garments I've knitted to stylists to be featured in press shoots, and have sent pieces to Anti Agency London and Suki Waterhouse. My work has been featured in SADGRADS Zine 2020 (Vol.2) and I was interviewed by Eilidh Nuala Duffy for the publication BogLog in April 2021.

My professional experience lies primarily in the fashion industry, in which I have held positions at numerous start-up brands, most recently a bespoke uniform design studio.

About the lesson

I can provide personalised tutorial sessions for students of all levels looking to develop their art and design work, from concept to execution, or improve their written work in arts subjects – from personal statements and critical essays to dissertations.

I am especially well placed to help with the conceptual aspect of art and design work, having studied multi-disciplinary design, I know how to get to the heart of a brief and create a new and unexpected outcome. Once we've found the conceptual base for your project, I can help you see this through to execution, advising on the best mediums, techniques and presentation formats. I believe a good conceptual underpinning is important for any project, from GCSE all the way up to degree level, and is the best way to make your work stand out.

Although many students struggle with this aspect, the majority of art and design courses do require a written element, and I believe writing about your practice can be extremely helpful even if it doesn't come naturally. Having achieved above 80% in the majority of my undergraduate written assignments, including 85% in my dissertation, I can use these skills to help you write about your own work. Whether this be from a personal, reflective point of view, a personal statement, or critically analysing your work in an academic context, I can help you achieve the grades you need and use written communication to further your understanding of yourself as an artist/designer.
