About River

Hi, I’m River. I’m a creative, observant, and deeply thoughtful person with a strong appreciation for storytelling in all its forms. I’m drawn to work that allows me to explore emotion, meaning, and human connection, whether through music, film, or writing.

I’ve been playing piano since early childhood, and music continues to shape the way I approach creativity, discipline, and teaching. Alongside music, I’m passionate about filmmaking and video editing, where I enjoy translating ideas and feelings into visual narratives. I’m especially interested in projects that feel honest, atmospheric, and intentional rather than polished for the sake of perfection.

I previously worked in a museum environment, where I engaged with people of all ages and helped make learning feel accessible and engaging. I’ve also volunteered as a tutor with United for Literacy, supporting students across all subjects and adapting my approach to different learning styles. In addition, I’ve given private piano lessons to children as young as five years old, focusing on building strong foundations while fostering confidence and a love for music.

At my core, I value creativity with purpose, authenticity, and quiet confidence. I bring care, reliability, and intention into everything I do, and I’m always looking for meaningful ways to grow, learn, and contribute.

About the lesson

I’ve been playing piano since I was five years old, and over the years it has become one of the most grounding and expressive parts of my life. As a senior pianist with over a decade of experience, I understand not just how to play the instrument, but how to learn it, including the challenges, frustrations, and breakthroughs that come with it.

My approach to teaching is patient, encouraging, and student-centered. I believe piano lessons should feel safe, motivating, and enjoyable, not intimidating. I focus on helping students build strong foundations while also nurturing creativity, confidence, and a genuine love for music. Whether a student is brand new to piano or looking to grow their skills, I meet them where they are and adapt lessons to their learning style and goals.

I’m especially mindful of students who learn differently or may feel anxious or overwhelmed. I create a calm, supportive environment where mistakes are part of the process and progress is celebrated. My goal isn’t just to teach notes and technique, it’s to help students feel proud of themselves and connected to music in a meaningful way.
