I teach mathematics to class 1st to 10th not only by chalk method i used different method like pear learning , and make them understand that how every thing used in our real life. And this is all not done by lecture mode i used some 'to do ' things in my class some models , project making but these things will not make burdun on students .
and I believe that we should not treat students as a blank paper. They have their own experience, we just have to give them direction.
