About Jia

As an artist, I’m deeply inspired by the world around me—whether it’s the play of light and shadow, the complexity of human emotion, or the texture of everyday objects. My work often explores themes of identity, memory, and perception, blending realism with abstract elements to create visually striking and thought-provoking pieces. I work primarily in acrylic and oil paints and I enjoy experimenting with different techniques to push the boundaries of what’s possible within my practice.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to exhibit my work in local galleries and online platforms and I’ve developed a strong appreciation for the connection between art and the viewer. I believe that art has the power to transcend language and communicate emotions and ideas in a way that words cannot. My goal is always to create work that resonates with people on a personal level, sparking reflection, conversation, and a deeper understanding of the world we live in.

In addition to my own practice, I’m passionate about sharing my knowledge with others and helping students discover their own artistic potential. I see teaching as a way to not only pass on technical skills but also to inspire others to find their voice and express themselves authentically through art.

Welcome to my art lessons! I’m Jia, and I’m excited to guide you through your creative journey. My teaching approach is centered on fostering individual expression, building technical skills, and nurturing a deep understanding of the artistic process. Whether you’re a beginner, an intermediate student, or someone seeking to refine your craft, my lessons are designed to meet you where you are and help you grow from there.
Teaching Methodology & Techniques

I believe that learning art is a combination of technique and personal exploration. My methodology is flexible, blending structured skill-building exercises with opportunities for creative freedom. We’ll explore various mediums and styles, focusing on fundamentals like composition, color theory, texture, and perspective. But equally important is the emphasis on personal voice and artistic intuition—encouraging you to experiment, make mistakes, and learn from them.

Through guided demonstrations, one-on-one feedback, and reflective exercises, I ensure that every lesson is engaging and tailored to your pace. The lessons will often combine visual analysis, critical thinking, and hands-on practice, helping you not only improve technical skills but also develop your creative mindset.

A Typical Lesson Plan

Each lesson is designed to be dynamic and productive. I usually start with a brief introduction, discussing the goals and techniques we’ll focus on that day. This is followed by a hands-on activity, where I provide demonstrations and guidance while encouraging you to explore the subject matter independently. Depending on your level, I’ll offer tailored exercises to challenge you while keeping the atmosphere open and supportive.

1.Warm-up exercises to loosen up and get into a creative mindset.
2.Skill-focused activities, such as shading techniques, proportion studies, or color mixing.
3.Creative tasks where you apply what you’ve learned in personal, expressive ways.
4. Feedback and reflection at the end, where we review your work, discuss progress, and set goals for future lessons.
