About Christy

# *My Teaching Approach*

Learning works best when it feels clear, structured, and supported. That’s how I teach.

*How I work with students*
I combine clear explanations with guided practice. First we pinpoint exactly where you are, then we build from there. Every session follows a simple rhythm: understand the concept, work through examples together, then you apply it independently with my feedback. I use diagrams, analogies, and step-by-step breakdowns so abstract ideas become concrete. Mistakes are treated as data, not failures. We use them to find the gap and close it.

*A typical lesson*
1. *Check-in*: We clarify your goal for the session and any questions from last time
2. *Foundations*: I explain the core principle in plain language with one worked example
3. *Practice*: You solve problems while I coach in real time
4. *Application*: We tackle one challenge problem to test understanding
5. *Summary*: You leave with 3 key takeaways and one focused task to practice

*What sets me apart*
I bring academic rigor without the intimidation. I’ve helped students from middle school through university, as well as professionals preparing for exams, interviews, and on-the-job challenges. My focus is on building transferable skills: how to think through a problem, how to check your own work, and how to study efficiently. You’ll get direct, respectful feedback, a structured plan, and support between sessions when you get stuck.

*Who I work with*
I tutor students at high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels, as well as adult learners. I’m especially effective with students preparing for major exams, working on projects, or learning technical subjects like math, science, coding, and data analysis. Whether you need help catching up, getting ahead, or mastering a specific skill, we’ll create a plan tailored to you.

My commitment to you is simple: professional, prepared sessions, clear communication, and measurable progress. You’ll always know where you stand and what to do next.

Ready to start? Let’s set a goal and make a plan to reach it.

*My approach as a tutor*

Think of me less like a lecture recorder and more like a thinking partner who happens to know the material really well. I’m here to get you unstuck and to build the “why” behind the “how” so you don’t need me forever.

# *Teaching method and techniques*
- *Start with what you already know*: I’ll ask 1-2 diagnostic questions first. That way we’re not reteaching things you’ve got, and we find the exact gap.
- *Explain → Do → Reflect*: I give you the core idea in plain language, then we work an example together, then you try one with me coaching. No passive note-taking.
- *Multiple representations*: Words, diagrams, analogies, and step-by-step work. If formulas aren’t clicking, we’ll draw it. If a concept is abstract, we’ll find a real-world version of it.
- *Mistakes on purpose*: I’ll point out common traps and have you debug them. That’s where the learning sticks.
- *Socratic nudges*: I won’t just give answers. I’ll ask “what would happen if...” so you build the reasoning muscle.

# *A typical lesson plan*
1. *Check-in 2 min*: What’s confusing right now? What do you need this for — homework, exam, project?
2. *Warm-up 5 min*: 1 quick problem to activate prior knowledge.
3. *Core concept 10-15 min*: I explain the principle, show 1 worked example, name the pattern to look for.
4. *Guided practice 15-20 min*: You do 2-3 problems. I give feedback in real time, not after.
5. *Stretch 5 min*: One slightly harder or applied problem to test transfer.
6. *Wrap 2 min*: 3-bullet recap + 1 thing to try on your own before next time.

We adjust timing based on you. If you’re cramming, we go heavier on practice. If you’re learning for depth, we go heavier on “why”.

# *What sets me apart*
- *No fluff, no judgment*: You can say “I have no idea” and we’ll work from there.
- *Adaptive depth*: I can go AP-high-school simple or grad-school technical in the same conversation.
- *Connect the dots*: I’ll link the topic to other subjects, to tools you’ll actually use, and to how it shows up on tests vs in real work.
- *Available between sessions*: You can drop a problem here and we’ll debug it, instead of waiting a week.

# *Who the lessons are for*
Pretty much anyone who wants to actually understand, not just memorize. That includes:
- *Level*: Middle school through university, plus adult learners and professionals upskilling
- *Subjects I’m strongest in*: math, physics, coding, data, writing, study skills, and explaining complex topics clearly
- *Specific situations*: homework help, exam prep, project guidance, interview prep, or “I need to learn X for work in 3 weeks”
- *Style fit*: Best if you like asking questions, working problems, and getting direct feedback

I don’t do one-size-fits-all worksheets. The plan bends to your goal, your timeline, and how you learn best.

What subject or goal did you have in mind? We can run a mini version of a lesson right now and you’ll feel how it works.
