About Emily

I'm an archaeologist and historian with a genuine, lived relationship with the Greek language, both ancient and modern. I hold a Master's degree in Archaeology from the University of Thessaly and a Bachelor's degree in History and Archaeology from the University of Ioannina, where I graduated first in my class. My academic research has required close, careful work with Ancient Greek texts, not just reading them but interpreting their context and meaning, and I've also tutored school-age students in Greece in these subjects. I take teaching seriously: I prepare lessons thoughtfully, communicate clearly, and adapt to how each student learns best. You can expect punctuality, patience, and a genuine investment in your progress, whether we meet online or in person in Dublin.

About the lesson

Hi, I'm Emily! I'm an archaeologist and historian from Greece, currently based in Dublin, offering both online and face-to-face lessons in Modern Greek, Ancient Greek, and Greek literature.

My teaching approach centers on real texts and real context rather than rote memorization. For Modern Greek, we focus on practical, everyday communication, with grammar introduced naturally through use. For Ancient Greek, we work directly with primary sources, connecting language to the history and culture behind it. For literature, we read closely and discuss meaning, not just structure. Lessons typically run 60 minutes, though I'm happy to adjust to 45 or 90 minutes depending on what works best for you.

I hold a Master's degree in Archaeology and a Bachelor's degree in History and Archaeology, graduating top of my class. My research has involved deep work with Ancient Greek primary sources, and I've also tutored middle and high school students in Greece across these subjects.

My lessons suit a wide range of students: complete beginners in Modern Greek, classics students working through Ancient Greek texts, school students needing support with the Greek curriculum, or anyone with a personal interest in Greek language, history, or literature. I adapt each lesson to your level, pace, and goals.
