About Irene
Holding a guitar for the first time feels like balancing a wooden object against your ribs. We start by placing your fingers to ensure clean, ringing tones rather than muted buzzing. I integrate grade exam prep into our sessions for those pursuing formal qualifications.
Free chord charts and tab sheets are shared after each class to help you recall the nuances of our work. My 13 years of performing experience mean I understand the physical strain of long practice sessions. We focus on ergonomic habits that keep your wrists and hands healthy. Playing should always feel like a relaxing conversation with your instrument.

Absolute beginners often sit in my studio with nothing but a nervous grip on their guitar neck. It is a quiet moment before the first chord rings out. My background as a graduate of The Glenn Gould School allows me to blend formal theory with folk performance traditions. I have spent 13 years performing across Canada and teaching students ranging from hobbyists to advanced learners.
Power chords and barre chords are fundamental, but they must be executed with proper acoustic technique to sound correct. Reading sheet music is a standard part of my curriculum for those interested in deeper study. I find that most learners just want to sound musical enough to enjoy their own practice sessions.
