About Briar

My journey as a guitar tutor began with a lifelong fascination with melody, rhythm, and musical expression. I earned a B.Mus in Guitar Performance and Contemporary Music Studies, gaining comprehensive knowledge in both performance and pedagogy. Over 12 years, I have taught students across all skill levels, helping them develop technical proficiency, musical interpretation, and performance confidence in diverse genres.

I teach with patience, encouragement, and a focus on individual goals. Lessons combine structured technical exercises with improvisation, repertoire study, and creative challenges, ensuring that students cultivate both competence and artistic expression. I aim to foster independence, confidence, and a personal connection to music in every student.

Beyond teaching, I remain engaged in performing, composing, and exploring new musical styles. Teaching guitar is profoundly rewarding because I witness students grow technically and artistically, develop self-confidence, and discover their unique musical voice. Supporting their musical journey is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my career.

Intermediate learners explore barre chords, extended chord voicings, scales, improvisation techniques, and stylistic versatility. Advanced learners focus on complex repertoire, improvisational composition, performance preparation, and recording techniques. Every session combines practical exercises, guided reflection, and performance opportunities to strengthen both technical and creative abilities, cultivating a well-rounded musical skill set.
