About Jim

Hi! My name is Jim and I am a fully bilingual, dual-culture Korean tutor with a deep understanding of both Eastern and Western worlds.

I was born and raised in South Korea, moving to New York City when I was 15 years old. Having spent exactly half my life in Seoul and the last 20 years in NYC, I don't just teach the Korean language—I teach the culture, mindset, and lifestyle. My formal education in Korea through middle school gave me a flawless native foundation, which I later advanced through rigorous self-study to a high school and college level.

Beyond language, I am a creative professional. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) and an MFA in Industrial Design from Parsons School of Design in NYC. My background in design means I bring a highly visual, organized, and engaging approach to teaching. Whether we are analyzing the architectural terms in a Korean historical drama, breaking down the visual metaphors in a K-movie, or having an advanced conversation about global culture, I tailor my perspective to bridge the gap between Korea and the West.
