About Sam

Specific experience teaching and continually learning from CS50 - Harvard's online course, taught and updated regularly.

Experience working as a professional developer, most recently specialising in App Development, for large companies and start-ups alike, provided a solid set of skills to pass knowledge on, the thing that keeps me motivated to learn more and hone my own technical and pedagogical skills.

Teaching in different environments: mixed, all-boys and all-girls secondary schools, one of which winning the “Time Educational Supplement (TES) School of the Year” (Best state school in the country); online with students from some of the most prestigious universities in the world: Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard; industries and company cultures, provided skills to adjust sessions to a professional environment whilst keeping the sessions fun, motivating and engaging. Working in these climates allowed collaboration with, and learning from, some of the incredible people in order to share a learning experience beyond the academic realm.

My favourite part of teaching is two-pronged: understanding how you learn and are motivated and challenging you to work towards goals incrementally. One-to-one tutoring enables this bond and this experience.

Focussed and light when working. Balanced outside work with surf, travel and care (for others and myself).

As a specialist, qualified Computer Science teacher with a background in Web Development and 8 years working within the Systems Support industry, I have developed the knowledge and resources to guide you through one of the best courses created and updated yearly.

Lessons are diverse, problem-solving oriented and, most importantly, guided by you. With many, many students, I've found that starting with your intuition is one of the most effective ways to learn, gain and remain motivated - you will learn to solve problems by building on skills you have already developed.

I'm here to support, motivate and develop your thinking by providing scaffolding for your Computer Science story. You explain how you're thinking now, I'll help with syntax (the language), how to research (finding and understanding documentation) and learning from mistakes and understanding errors (because they're part of the journey after all).

Sam is very knowledgeable and very easy to talk too. He really helped me in my final year of University and it's safe to say I got a 1st in my computer science degree. He's now helping my nephew who's in year 8 with his IT work and is very good with him and engages him easily and of course, his work has really improved! I'd definitely recommend Sam and already have to family and friends.
