About James

I taught ESL and Accent Reduction to students from a variety of linguistic backgrounds. I acquired a depth of understanding of many cultures by working with students from China, Brazil, Venezuela, Vietnam, México, Spain, Angola, Ethiopia, and other countries. The education level of my students varied from first graders to PhDs. I also have quite a bit of experience teaching adults with only three to four years of formal education in their first language. Usually, my teaching assignments were given to me by companies that were interested in developing their workforce by providing the opportunity to acquire a second language.

Additionally, I developed specialized lesson plans to cater to the specific needs of engineers, accountants, project managers, and graphic artists. I worked for a number of different types of oil and gas companies as well as the occasional family that wanted to supplement their children's education with ESL lessons. My favorite class was working one on one with an inventor whose company wanted him to testify in a patent infringement suit. His company won the suit and credited my student's improved accent as a contributing factor.
As an ESL/Accent Reduction teacher I: Taught non-native speakers reading, vocabulary and conversation skills, Evaluated student's progress regularly to ensure the desired objectives were met, Developed my own method of teaching accent reduction which can best be compared to a musician experienced on one instrument acquiring skill on a second instrument.

About the lesson

I am an effective, and practical teacher. I am able to help students believe in the fact that they can speak better English with just a little effort and practice. My students always learn and come to believe that, with patience and practice, they are able to achieve a great deal.
