About Orietha
My objective as a teacher is to motivate my students toward a level of independence where they develop a desire to learn and think for themselves. To reach this end, I rely upon many activities that involve a total physical response (TPR) by the students, online teaching required a lot of TPR. Instead of just reading about salsa and listening to the music, my students dance the steps and sing the songs, engaging in the action as they learn both Spanish language skills and elements of Hispanic/Latino culture. Through this type of active participation, students learn and form their own opinions and base of knowledge. I define my approach to teaching foreign language as rationalistic since I encourage critical thinking.

The majority of instruction will be conducted in Spanish, especially with the younger students. Examples of other various activities used that can help students move towards language proficiency and gain a better understanding of Hispanic culture are: viewing educational videos and movies, reading Hispanic magazines, newspapers, comics and books , grammar; listening; writing; reading and comprehension activities and exercises; arts and crafts; Hispanic art; poetry, and literature appreciation, special holiday celebrations.
