About Naima

I bring the same level of professionalism to tutoring that I bring to my academic and clinical work. As a UCLA student with experience in oral surgery shadowing, HIPAA certification, CPR/BLS certification, and published research through UCLA's E-Scholar program, I bring precision and follow-through second nature.

I show up prepared with a plan for every session, communicate clearly on progress, and adjust quickly if something isn't working. I don't just recite concepts — I make sure I understand material well enough to explain it multiple ways until it actually clicks. Whether it's algebra or organic chemistry, my goal is for students and parents to feel confident they're working with someone reliable and genuinely invested in their success.

About Me

I'm a pre-dental student at UCLA with a background that blends math, science, and real clinical experience — I've shadowed in oral surgery and dental offices, and I've spent a lot of time in orgo, bio, and anatomy coursework. My tutoring roots go back to Kumon, where I ran group sessions on algebra and functions, and I've kept teaching in different forms ever since, from classroom support to one-on-one mentoring.

How I Teach

I'm not a fan of just walking through a problem and calling it done — I want students to actually get the "why" behind something, not just memorize steps. So I'll break a concept down to its basics, show how it works with a simple example, and then let the student try it themselves while I'm there to catch mistakes before they turn into habits. Lots of visuals, lots of repetition, especially for things like chemistry mechanisms where recognizing patterns makes all the difference.

What a Session Looks Like

We usually start by talking through whatever's been confusing — homework, a concept from class, whatever's on their mind. From there, I'll re-explain it more simply, we'll work through a few problems together, and then they try some on their own with me guiding as needed. I like to end with a quick recap and a heads-up about the mistakes I noticed, so they walk away with something concrete for next time.

Why It Works

I've worked with a lot of different learners — including neurodivergent students — through my time as a paraeducator and developmental specialist, so I don't stick to one teaching style just because it worked once. And because I've actually been in clinical settings, I can connect the science to real-world context, which tends to make it click better than a textbook explanation alone.

Who I Tutor

Middle and high schoolers working on algebra and math fundamentals, and high school or college students in biology, chemistry, or organic chemistry. I work best with students who like things broken down visually and want a teaching style that actually adjusts to how they learn.
