About DYLAN

Dylan is an IB student and well-rounded tutor who supports students in chemistry, physics, math, English, and French. His teaching style is patient, structured, and encouraging, with a focus on breaking difficult ideas into clear steps. He helps students build confidence through practice, explanation, and feedback. Outside academics, Dylan is involved in music and sports, and he brings a friendly, relatable approach to every lesson.

About the lesson

Dylan’s approach to literature tutoring

My approach to literature tutoring focuses on helping students move beyond plot summary and develop clear, evidence-based analysis. I teach students how to close read texts, identify authorial choices, build strong thesis statements, and explain how language, structure, tone, imagery, symbolism, and characterization create meaning.

A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in on the student’s assignment or area of difficulty. We then read and annotate a passage, poem, chapter, or essay question together, identify key ideas, and turn those ideas into a thesis or analytical paragraph. I provide feedback on clarity, structure, evidence, and depth of analysis so students know exactly how to improve.

What sets me apart is my patient and structured teaching style. I make literature feel less confusing by giving students a repeatable method for analysis: identify the authorial choice, explain its effect, connect it to a theme, and build an argument. This approach aligns with strong literature-writing expectations, where students are expected to interpret texts rather than simply retell the plot.

My lessons are best suited for middle school and high school students who need support with English, literature, essay writing, poetry, Shakespeare, novel studies, comparative writing, and exam preparation.
