About Erin
I’ve been a teacher for more than 15 years, and I’ve had the rather unusual privilege of teaching in South Korea, Italy, the Czech Republic, London, England, as well as here in Ontario. I’m an Ontario Certified Teacher, Primary/Junior qualified, and I also hold a TEFL certificate for teaching English as an additional language, along with Additional Qualifications in Special Education.
Teaching has taken me into some very interesting and diverse classrooms and introduced me to students from an enormous range of cultures, backgrounds, personalities, and abilities – both at home and abroad. I have learned that every student is unique and brings their own gifts to learning. I see it as my responsibility to recognize those gifts, build on them, and help foster a genuine love of learning.
I’m curious by nature (a lifelong learner), can be a little bit silly when the situation calls for it, and I genuinely like getting to know the person behind the student. I want to know what they’re interested in, what makes them laugh, what they find frustrating, and – perhaps most importantly – what makes them say, “Oh! I get it now!”
Living and teaching in different countries changed the way I look at education, culture, and the world, and I love bringing some of that curiosity into my teaching. I don't expect students to sit quietly while I talk at them for an hour. I want us to work together, experiment, ask questions, laugh occasionally, and figure things out.
Most importantly, I want students to finish a lesson feeling a little more confident than when they started. School can sometimes make kids feel like they're 'bad' at something when what they really need is a different explanation, a different approach, or simply someone who believes they can do it. That's where I come in and get to shine my light!

I believe learning is most effective when students feel comfortable, supported, and genuinely interested in what they are doing. I create a welcoming, low-pressure learning environment where students can ask questions, make mistakes, build confidence, and discover that learning can actually be fun.
As an Ontario Certified Teacher with 15 years of global and local teaching experience, I offer personalized online tutoring and academic support for elementary students from Kindergarten through Grade 6 of all ability levels. I support reading, writing, literacy, English, ESL/EAL, comprehension, homework, test preparation, study skills, and organization across a range of elementary subjects. I can also provide mathematics support through Grade 3. I hold additional Special Education qualifications to ensure best practices are provided in adapting instruction to different learning needs.
I use games, conversation, practical activities, and other engaging approaches to suit the student and the learning goal. I don't believe tutoring lessons should feel like just more school – after school. At the same time, I am organized and purposeful: we can review homework or questions, identify what a student needs to work on, and then use our time together intentionally to help a student succeed educationally.
I have taught learners ranging from age 3 to 72 – many who did not speak English initially. One thing I've learned is that there is no single approach that works for everyone. I take time to understand how each student learns best and adjust my approach accordingly.
Whether a student needs help catching up, wants to strengthen a particular skill, needs support with homework or test preparation, is learning English, or simply needs a patient and encouraging teacher who can make learning feel manageable again, I tailor our sessions to their individual needs.
My goal is not just to help students get through today's assignment. I want them to understand what they are learning, develop strategies they can use independently, and finish our sessions feeling more capable and confident.
