About Elliott
I'm an author and historian holding a BA with Honours in Ancient Greek and Roman Studies, and years of experience in library/archival work for small collections. I take a queer-inclusive, disability-informed approach to my tutoring and strive to make all students feel welcome, heard and supported.
I use he/him pronouns and am comfortable tutoring in person, over video, or even exclusively over text-based communication. For in-person students, I offer several textbooks on loan and for use in scholarly pursuits, especially on historical, literary and queer-cultural topics.

I believe that students cannot truly learn unless they find a way to be interested in the topic - and that's what I strive to do. My lessons discuss history, English, and literary studies not just as something to 'get done', but something worth being passionate about. I also believe in adapting lesson plans and teaching styles for the student; a hands-on learner needs a hands-on lesson plan!
For History, depending on the specializations needed by the student, I like to begin with an overview of the timeline, followed by practices in history scholarship such as reliable sourcing, primary vs. secondary sources, and important key terms such as archaeology, paleo-anthropology, prehistoric vs. historic, and so on. That way, students have a firm foundation to build off of, with me and with any and all other tutors in the subject.
While I've worked with many different age groups, I suggest my tutoring sessions for Grade 8 and up, all the way to university undergraduates and hopefuls.
