I prefer online or phone communication. By discussing the student's feelings about eating, motivation for eating, etc. we can begin to put into words some Emotional Eating concepts. We will focus on Emotional Eating first, then move on to a discussion about the healthiest food choices for the student's goals. We can determine some basic numbers (target body weight, target calorie intake, macro-nutrient intakes, etc.) but when you focus on eating mindfully and paying attention to hunger and fullness cues (without the distraction of emotions!), calorie counting doesn't matter so much. The student decides how many coaching sessions are necessary. We will keep working together as long as you are feeling supported. We can try out many different mindfulness exercises, and talk about fitness as well. I can share meal plans, recipes, and shopping and cooking tips as well. The student's focus will determine the direction of our sessions.
I am currently completing a Nutritional Consulting diploma program. I also have a Social Sciences Bachelor's degree with a minor in Psychology. I have had a passion for Nutrition for many years and have explored many different elements of healthy eating. Emotional Eating affects most people in some way, and no matter what foods we are eating; if we eat under stressful situations, to relieve boredom, hide feelings, etc, we will not resolve our eating struggles. I can help students explore their reasons for overeating, binge eating, or choosing unhealthy foods with sensitivity and understanding. Once we address Emotional Eating concerns, my Nutrition background can help me guide students towards healthier food choices.
