About Madi

As someone who has been on both sides of the Spanish classroom, I understand the importance of knowing each student's goals and skills when teaching lessons. I strive to provide an experience that makes every student passionate about learning Spanish. I found my love for Spanish through taking Spanish literature classes. I enjoyed reading stories from Latinoamérica and analyzing poetry. This specific part of learning Spanish motivated me to continue learning it after high school and into college. For some students, grammar and pronunciation are much more enjoyable, so finding ways to incorporate these aspects of language will make learning Spanish more enjoyable overall.

About the lesson

In my lessons, I emphasize Spanish as a language and a connection to culture. I believe that learning a language alongside the cultures behind it creates a complete grasp of it. I emphasize students who already have some language experience and need coursework support or would like to practice their Spanish outside of school or at home.

In a typical lesson plan, I review the student's level of Spanish and ask them what interests them. A sample lesson plan:

- Greetings
- Figuring out student's needs
- Go over homework
- Review more complex material in the homework
- Work through more practice questions
- Review what was learned during the session

Depending on the goals of the student, lesson plans are flexible to accommodate different types of learning in Spanish, including:

- practice conversations
- reading complex texts
- preparing for AP exams (mastery of AP Spanish Literature texts)
- elementary mathematics in Spanish
- elementary history in Spanish
- using Spanish professionally (writing emails, papers, etc.)

I have been developing my Spanish speaking and teaching skills for over 13 years, experiencing both being a student and a lecturer for high-level Spanish students. Along with teaching, I have used my language skills while working at restaurants, translating between staff, customers, and management.
