About Katharina

My name is Katharina Holt and I am a recent Queen’s University graduate in Geological Engineering. I will be commencing Master of Science in Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of British Columbia Okanagan in May of 2020.
Professionally, my long-term goals are to stay in the field of academia, with a particular focus on structural geology and tectonics. I am very passionate about learning and have enjoyed sharing this with students through working as a teaching assistant at Queen’s University for 1 semester as well as tutoring local senior high-school students in both physics and calculus over the past 3 years.
My overall grade point average throughout my undergraduate engineering degree was 3.74 and I am very well versed in calculus, physics, advanced functions and chemistry concepts. I can also tutor junior science and mathematics courses. I am also a very quick learner and can review old notes from former classes to help tutor / teach science and mathematics concepts that may be outside my field of expertise.

About the lesson

My teaching methodology is to make sure that students understand the steps it takes to solve a problem, as opposed to simply memorizing the steps to obtain a correct answer. This is achieved by asking the students targeted questions to help them solve the problems themselves, especially when there is no tutor or classroom teacher around to help.
