About Johan

Well, for starters my name is Johan. I'm from New Zealand and currently study engineering at Imperial College London. I was doing engineering mathematics at Berkeley for a bit.

During my high school years in Seychelles, I did a bit of volunteering at the local orphanages. My main interests were really constituted of tutoring the kids there. At school, I was never one for studying a lot. I always tried to find the most effective way of getting the grades I needed, and for me, I think it was really gratifying to see that those same methods were able to help the kids out too.

It was genuinely very warming because it felt like I was contributing something to the world for the first time. This kind of expanded onto coaching students in the year below and now that I'm in uni, I'd like to continue that.

About the lesson

My lessons are usually something along the lines of going through a past paper or question sheets. A normal lesson would really just involve going through the paper and seeing how the student grapples with the question.

I like to be direct, let the student learn the most efficient method, and let them practice it. Particularly at GCSE and A-levels, I have found this method to be most effective. I also accommodate to students applying outside of the UK, I also can advise for their higher education progressions, especially for SATS, IB, and US-uni applications.

I track all my student's progress and give feedback as well as optional reports for the guardians.

I've been teaching students for about 5 years, getting 4 of them into their top uni choices. (UCL, Uni of Toronto, Glasgow, Berkeley)

I met Johan at university during one of my projects involving difficult Mathematics. Johan is very smart and always asks the right questions, helping me finish my project much quicker and more efficiently.
