About Chelsea
I am currently a student studying Elementary Education and teaching Japanese on the side. I teach at the Provo Missionary Training Center and I have taught about 60 students over the course of a year (about 20 of those students I taught via zoom, so I am very comfortable teaching in an online setting.) From November 2017 to March 2019 I lived in Japan and daily studied and communicated in Japanese. I also went back to Japan in May 2019 and gained experience as an English teacher there for 3 months. I feel confident in my abilities as a Japanese speaker and teacher.

My teaching method is centered on creativity and relevance. This means I will base my lessons on topics that are relevant to the student and then help them to create sentences and hold conversations based on those topics. For example, if the student is in high school, loves art and music, and has a large family, we might focus on those topics and learn vocabulary and sentence structures that could help the student communicate about these topics which they are passionate about. When I teach, I heavily focus on helping students to begin speaking and carrying on conversations as soon as possible. I believe that this more social approach to language learning is effective and enjoyable for both the student and the teacher. As for resources, I draw on online websites and Youtube channels that are free, simple, and easily accessible to the student.
