About Elsa

Born and raised in Spain (Barcelona) but with an English father, therefore I'm trilingual (Spanish, Catalan and English). I'm currently studying jazz voice at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

*Here is a bit of background history:

I studied the scientific Baccalaureate (the equivalent of A levels) in Spain, with the following subjects: Biology, Physics, Maths, Spanish, Catalan, English, Philosophy, History of Spain, in which I got an overall mark of 9,2/10.

I combined my academic work with the "Grado Profesional de Música" (the equivalent of the English Grade 8). I did classical piano as my first instrument, and complemented it with other subjects: Classical Harmony, Jazz Harmony, Jazz Piano, Harpsichord and Chamber music.

Simultaneously, I sung and was a soloist in the internationally awarded Children's Choir "Cor Infantil Amics de la Unió", and took classical singing lessons with a Soprano.
I formed the vocal group In Crescendo, winners of the TV choir competition "Oh Happy Day (TV3)" in 2014.
I have also been lead singer in several groups of contemporary styles (pop, jazz, funk, soul, latin), and I compose my own music.

*WHAT DO I OFFER?

I have worked as a tutor in Spain with the following subjects: English conversation, singing (technique and repertoire), and piano.

I'm tutor that can adapt to the necessities of the student, as my life experience, until now, has led me to a broad and non-limiting understanding of education.

-Singing lessons:

It totally depends on the level and necessities of the student. It is important for a singer to have a solid technical base (normally based around the classical technique), so technique exercises are a big part of my teaching. And from there, we can build the rest.
Stylistically I offer teaching the modern genres, which is what I'm focusing on as a career. It includes all of the genres that I've mentioned previously, including the possibility to work on improvisation.

-Piano for beginners:

I have played the piano since I was 8 and have accomplished the equivalent of Grade 8 with piano, in Spain. I have also taken lessons of jazz piano (2 years) and Harpsichord (1 year).
I offer piano lessons for those who want to start to learn or those who have been playing for 1-2 years.

-Spanish lessons:

These can be from conversation classes to grammar, writing, or to prepare for an official exam. It all depends in your level and the purposes of your learning.

I was raised in Spain surrounded by the Spanish language, but since I was little I trained my ears listening to my dad, and one day achieved the same fluency in the English language. Parallel to this I learnt how to write etc.

If I'm your Spanish tutor, that will be the only language that I will speak to you throughout the lessons (unless there are serious issues of misunderstanding).
I believe that training the EAR is the most important and basic part of learning a language. Gradually building all those neuronal connections that will make you finally become fluent in the new language.
