Although I will follow the standard book ‘ Minna No Nihongo’ for teaching basic concepts, my experience and knowledge about how to actually interact with Japanese people and how to behave and carry oneself in specific situations, which I have learnt from my stay in Japan, will help students deal with the real life situations which they may face when they visit Japan.

  • What motivates you to teach & why?

I have taught Japanese in language institutes and I have always enjoyed teaching. When I came across SuperProf, I thought this is a good platform to reach out to even larger number of students and share my knowledge.
  • When did you start developing an interest in your subject area?

I moved to Japan while I was in senior high school. So, learning Japanese was not an option for me. It was something which I had to learn to survive there. Over time, I developed an interest in the language and the culture of Japan.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

I always think of my father as my role model. He also learned the language at a later stage of his youth, worked hard and is working as a Japanese translator for a long time now. He is among the people I look up for motivation.
  • What is the biggest obstacle you had to overcome in mastering your craft?

Japanese language is considered to be one of the most difficult languages to learn. Consistency and persistence helped me sail through. I have seen people leaving the studies in between due to sheer amount of effort you have to put in to master this language.
  • In your opinion, what makes someone excel in your subject area?

Persistence, hard work and the most important is love for the language and culture of Japan. If you find Japan interesting, you will hang in there and put in the required effort to master the language.
  • What would you say to a student who says, "This is too difficult, I give up!"?

    Just hang in there.
  • How does someone become a Super Prof?

You have to enjoy teaching to become a Super Prof.
