About Minh Quan

I'm currently doing Master Coursework at Monash and graduated from UTS (both in IT). I have been programming since I was 13, so I know the difficulties you may face when learning; I will try my best to give real-life examples so you can understand the concept behind it. I never claim to be the best, but the reviews below show what I can do.

  • Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?

The first time I used a computer was when I was a kid. The computer was a big, bulky one. It took about 20 seconds just to boot up and it was on Windows XP. I didn't even know how to read or write, but somehow, I could still search for the Y8.com (a game website) and played games for hours.
  • What is the technological evolution that has marked you most and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?

By the time I wrote this, AI is an undeniable technological evolution. You can make a whole app or website twice as fast with the help of ChatGPT. By gathering the data and generating the solution or guidelines based on real-world applications, they can significantly reduce the time I need to do the research myself.
  • Explain your expertise, your interest in it and, more broadly, its importance in the computer world.

Although I can do everything, from web, app, IoT, and others, my strength and passion are focused on front-end web development. I'm fascinated by the interaction and visuals the programs offer for the users. In other words, that is UX (User Experience). But instead of designing, I'm more into coding and building those visual elements, turning things from a sketch into actual software.
  • Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you or do you have other role models?

They and others like Elon Musk, Nikola Tesla, Alan Turing, etc. They showed their passions, dreams, and effort in making something helpful for humanity. That's the beauty of it because people put their effort into work to make the world better, not just to make money or scam people. However, as the big tech companies grow, their goals and core values may also change.
  • What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that "IT is too complicated"?

Everything is magic until you touch it. Have you ever wondered how planes fly? Low and high pressure, energy, aerodynamics? It's complicated because people use professional words and explain them in too much detail, to the point that it is unnecessary and confuses you. But they are just some moving air under the wings, creating a force to lift the plane up. Maybe a diagram or similar, real-life examples, like flowing air making the kite fly, can even help you understand more easily. Think it simple, and it will be simple; think it complicated, and it will be complex.
  • What are your other passions, related or non-related to computers?

I'm also interested in User Experience (UX). It's not just how the software displays to the users. Everything provides different experiences and feelings. Buildings, arts, animals, weather, environment, etc. It's interesting to see people perceive things differently based on both objective and subjective factors. Why are there any many great and better phones out there and people still choose the iPhone? One of the reasons is the feeling it brings to the user, the feeling of being safe, being with everyone, premium, luxury, etc. Same to the previous question, other phones usually include too many features and make things too complicated and risky, that's why people stay away from them. On the other hand, the iPhone is simple and restricts what users can do to the phone. Both have pros and cons based on the user and situation.
