About Katie
I qualified as a teacher in 2018 after studying and achieving a 1st Class Honours in a Masters of Education in Primary Education at The University of Winchester. Since qualifying, I have been teaching at a secondary special school for boys with social, emotional and mental health difficulties in central Southampton. In July, I am leaving my position as KS3 English Teacher to begin a new venture and wish to tutor part-time.
I am creative, compassionate and patient with a good sense of humour, creating strong relationships with my students. I have a passion for working with and supporting young people to overcome and master their difficulties in order that they are able to learn effectively.
I have considerable knowledge of the Primary and Secondary (KS3) curriculum, having had training in all core subject areas, and specialising in Art and Design. In my first two years of teaching, I taught Maths and PSHE to Years 7-9 and for the last year, I have been leading and teaching KS3 English.

In the years I have been teaching, I have built a classroom culture where children are motivated to succeed and prosper. I work closely with children with low self-esteem, assisting them in identifying and acknowledging their own strengths and potential, while also encouraging independence and ownership of their own learning. I have found it extremely rewarding seeing children’s confidence build, and begin to enjoy learning and achieving anything they set out to do.

Details
I charge a rate of £25 per hour and am available weekdays and weekends, term-time and throughout school holidays. Discounted rates are available for block bookings. I am flexible as to where I tutor, whether it be at my home or yours, although there will be a small charge to cover travel costs.
