About Akhila Reddy

My name is Akhila Reddy Bhimavarapu, and I am originally from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. I am currently residing in Toronto, Canada. I have been actively involved in performing and training in Kuchipudi for almost 20 years. I completed courses in Certificate, diploma, and Master of Performing Arts under the guidance of Sri Sappa Siva Kumar and Sri Ghantasala Pavan Kumar in Vijayawada. I feel honored to have received the Natyamayuri and Natya Ratna awards and have been appreciated by many eminent personalities for my contributions to the field of dance. I have showcased my talent in various parts of India, USA, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei.

About the lesson

I teach Kuchipudi, which is a classical Indian dance from Andhra Pradesh, combines dance, music, and acting. Key techniques that I use adavus (basic steps), mudras (hand gestures), abhinaya (expressions), and rhythmic patterns (tala). It blends nritta (pure dance), nritya (expressive dance), and natya (dance drama). Training follows the guru-shishya tradition, emphasizing storytelling and theatrical elements, with distinctive features like Tarangams (dancing on a brass plate).
