About Carmen

I’m reliable, professional, and well-prepared for every lesson. I believe in building strong learning relationships based on trust, encouragement, and clear communication. My goal is to make you feel comfortable, motivated, and confident as you progress in your Spanish journey.

About the lesson

I am an experienced and passionate Spanish tutor with over 30 years of teaching experience across all age groups—including children, teenagers, and adults. I also hold a New Zealand Level 5 Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching, which has further strengthened my ability to support adult learners in a structured and engaging way.

My approach is student-centered and adaptable. I take time to understand each learner’s goals, level, and preferred learning style—whether they're aiming for conversational fluency, academic support, travel preparation, or professional development. I then tailor each lesson to match those needs and ensure steady, confident progress.

I focus on developing the four essential language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing, while also weaving in cultural context to make the learning process meaningful and relevant. For younger learners, I create fun and interactive sessions that keep them motivated, while adult students benefit from clear structure, practical examples, and real-world communication practice.

With patience, encouragement, and personalized support, I aim to make learning Spanish not only effective, but enjoyable and rewarding for every student.

My daughter has been studying Spanish with Carmen for around 8 years. I also studied with Carmen to revise my schoolboy Spanish. I can emphatically attest Carmen makes the lessons interesting and fun. My daughter is at the top of her class and can converse with a high level of fluency. I have no hesitation in recommending Carmen as an excellent tutor for academic or conversational Spanish.

Carmen taught me Spanish for about five years when I was pretty young. She was really patient and really did her best to make classes interesting and fun even through my stroppy teenage years. She was clearly a great teacher since I managed to get an A in CIE AS level Spanish years after we parted ways :)
