About Jamie
Music is an incredible craft and expression that has enriched my life beyond measure! It is an inpiration that I love to share - the language of music genuinely does transcend boundaries like nothing else, it is a beautiful outlet accessible to everyone.
On the stage I am serving the music as a bass player, singer, band-leader and multi-instrumentalist (although my first instrument since age 13 is the bass). Both on and off stage I am refining these crafts continuously and a huge part of that is teaching as well continuously learning from other musicians, teachers, students and life itself.
In 2024 I sold out Ronnie Scott's with my progressive band Cykada and I have played in clubs, festivals (Glastonbury, Love Supreme, We Out Here, London Jazz...) and concert halls in about 30 countries and with many fantastic artists including many UK jazz royalty, rock/pop artists and prominent folk and jazz artists from Turkey, Kosovo, Iran, Greece, Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana and Morocco. As well as extensive recording credits I have also played live and via recordings on radio and television around the world including BBC, TRT & Worldwide FM.
I am fully DBS checked and since 2012 I have taught bass to people of all ages and walks of life from 7 years old to well beyond retirement. I have ran music masterclasses for National Youth Jazz Orcestra (NYJO), several universities and volunteered as a music teacher for refugee music charity Musikarama in Athens. Finally, to back my experience up with a qualification I have recently completed a masters in music performance at Goldsmiths University in 2024!

I draw from many fruitful years of creatively playing bass with a myriad of incredible artists and styles of music from around the world to give my students a deeply informed and colourful way with the world of bass.
Lessons focus on the student's goals and enjoying the journey to them.
From extensive teaching experience I am happy adjusting for students varied learning styles and I uphold the scientifically backed philosophy that the best learning comes through playing!
Some examples of common lesson contents are: positioning, basic to advanced technique, fretboard/fingerboard fluency, groove, metronome practice, reading, theory, improvisation, scales and modes, ear training, fretless,
*having done my grade 8 bass as a teenager I am happy to guide people through the process! It can be a great way to broaden your skill-set and gain a qualification, but is not necessary to develop your musicianship or career.

Having known Jamie for many years I can say with great confidence that he is an incredible musician and person.
I’m sure he’ll make an excellent teacher.Jamie is a vibrant and inspiring musician who has many years of experience as a performer which is abundantly clear in his lessons. His versatility means that he can tailor to your needs as a student with patience and encouragement - 10/10 I recommend !
After learning bass guitar for a few years, I was ready for a challenge and that is why I started taking lessons with Jamie. I highly recommend Jamie as a bass guitar teacher. Not only is he a very humble and incredibly talented individual, he is a very encouraging and detail orientated teacher. We cover a lot of material each lesson, including theory and rhythm (which I had struggled with before) and I have gained a greater appreciation for music. I look forward to every lesson and I have never been more enthusiastic to play bass guitar!
