About Anyie

I am a graduate of the Capilano Jazz Program with a Bachelor's in Music Education. I mainly play guitar, bass (4-string/5-string electric or upright), and piano. I also enjoy playing trumpet and trombone for fun. I love listening to music of all genres! This includes RnB, gospel, funk, Latin, pop, jazz, fusion and experimental music.

I have been playing music for over 11 years, and my favourite thing about it is how it brings people together from all walks of life. Teaching in a subject I love is the most rewarding when I see students accomplish what they initially thought they couldn’t. I’ve often witnessed students saying “I can never do that”, yet they were able to achieve it in the same lesson. Music is such a fulfilling journey and my focus is to help you achieve these milestones with confidence!

About the lesson

Whether it be music theory, history, sight reading/ear training, improvising, transcribing, or learning about studio recording/live performance, the list is endless when it comes to learning music! I like to include a few different topics in our week-to-week lessons depending on what your interests are. Lessons will include tips on technique/theory, learning a new song that interests you, or you may come in with a question that you had during the week. There will be a bit of lesson structure in our classes while making sure your questions are answered. It really helps me as a teacher to know what kind of music you like, or grew up listening to. Sharing music between teacher and student is something that I often encourage in learning. I'm very flexible with my teaching methods, always looking for new ways to make the "classroom" a fun place and an effective learning environment. I personally enjoy Motown hits, gospel, RnB, pop, fusion/international jazz, reggae and neo-soul, for example. I am able to work with students of all ages in various stages of learning, making sure that the content is practical and reliable. I look forward to getting to know you better and making sure that all your goals are met in our private lessons!

Perfect! Anyie is an excellent teacher! I'm a beginner and have never taken a guitar lesson before. My lessons have been on acoustic guitar and she helped me gain more confidence quickly and helped me learn my first song, all while having a lot of fun and enjoying the experience the whole time. She's thoughtful in her feedback and gives practical playing and practice advice. Anyie is punctual with classes and responds quickly. She adapted to my style of learning and I am grateful I found such an awesome teacher who I click with, and look forward to also learning bass and electric guitar with her. 1 hour lessons feel fast because I am genuinely enjoying the experience so much and having such a great time. My policy with cancellations is to receive at least 24-48 hours notice prior to our scheduled lesson. These lessons can be made up at a later date. Last-minute cancellations (less than 24 hours prior to the lesson) will be charged $40.

**Please kindly note that I do not offer lessons online. All lessons are hosted at my place in Vancouver. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to come to your house for lessons and deeply apologize for the inconvenience!
