Ken is one of the most accomplished debaters I know, but far more than that, he is also an incredible teacher. The first time I met Ken was also my first time debating in a room full of other first time debaters. Obviously, we were all terrible and barely made sense. But Ken took the round seriously and gave excellent feedback to each person in that room. I have rarely met any university-level debaters as accomplished as Ken who are also as willing to help out newcomers to the activity, even less so newcomers who never even debated in high school and are learning from scratch. His willingness to be patient and teach us, rather than patronizing us with empty platitudes or ignoring us because we weren’t on a high enough level was truly one of the main things that kept me coming back to debate. Since then, I have spent over 3 years debating on the university circuit and Ken has not only taught me a lot of the technicalities of debate but also how to approach debate in a way that is enjoyable and healthy, taking it seriously enough to care about its intricacies and work hard to be good but also to never miss that it is fundamentally meant to be a fun activity. Cannot recommend him enough as a coach for debating/public speaking.
