About Briar

Hi, I’m a passionate guitar tutor with 12 years of teaching experience and an Associate Degree in Guitar Performance. I specialize in helping students prepare for Rockschool, Trinity, and university-level guitar programs. My approach combines technical precision with creative exploration, helping each student find their unique voice on the instrument. Whether you're working toward a graded exam or simply want to become a confident player, I tailor lessons to your goals and strengths. I believe in building strong foundations—focusing on technique, tone, rhythm, and expression. From acoustic fingerstyle to electric solos, I make sure students feel supported at every step. I’ve worked with beginners discovering their first chords and advanced players refining their performance skills. I integrate music theory in a clear, practical way to deepen your understanding. I also encourage improvisation and composition to spark creativity. Watching students grow in confidence and musicality is the most rewarding part of my work. I’m here to help you unlock your full potential and enjoy the process of becoming a skilled guitarist. Let’s get started on your journey.

About the lesson

My teaching approach for guitar is built around creativity, technical growth, and personal expression. I work with students of all levels, from complete beginners to advanced players, and help them grow with confidence. I make sure to adapt my lessons to each student’s interests, pace, and learning style.

Whether you want to play around the campfire or dive deep into expressive blues, I guide you with patience and encouragement. I focus on core techniques, such as finger placement, rhythm, strumming, picking, and chord transitions. We also explore music theory in a simple way to strengthen your understanding of what you play.

I cover a wide range of genres—acoustic, rock, blues, jazz, pop, and classical—so you can find your own voice in music. I help you develop your ear, build timing through metronome practice, and grow comfortable improvising. Song-based learning is a big part of my method, so you’ll play real music from the start.

I encourage creativity through songwriting, solo building, and expressive playing. Every student gets personal attention and a structured path to grow. My goal is not just to teach guitar, but to help you enjoy every step of the journey.
