About Shiho

Hi, I’m Shiho. I was born and raised in Japan and spent a few years in the United States as a child before migrating to Australia in 2014. I have a deep understanding of cultural differences between Japan and other cultures.

I have taught students aged 8–19 in Japan as a cram school teacher, covering subjects such as English, Japanese, Math, and World History. I have also taught adults in a wide range of areas, including English, Japanese, Marketing, Design, Art & Craft, Drawing, and IT Skills.

In my downtime, I enjoy going for walks, visiting galleries, practicing traditional Japanese dance, drawing, building furniture, watching anime and movies, and listening to podcasts.

I enjoy deep conversations. I have experienced anxiety and depression myself, so I understand how difficult it can be to make mistakes while learning. Please don’t worry — I completely understand. Let’s take small steps and get comfortable together. I believe learning should be fun, relaxing, and something you genuinely look forward to.

About the lesson

I’m a Japanese–English bilingual tutor specialising in practical, real-life Japanese rather than textbook language! I teach Japanese in a way that makes sense for English speakers. Let’s forget about textbooks and start speaking today!

My goal is to make learning Japanese easy, enjoyable, and useful from day one. Whether you’re learning for travel, work, or everyday conversation, or just want to understand manga, anime, or movies in the original Japanese language (I love anime too!), lessons are taught in a relaxed and encouraging environment.

All levels and ages are welcome, as long as you’re willing to give it a go! Lessons are 45 minutes for young learners (~ primary students), and 60, 90, 120 minutes for teens and adults.
