I adopt a "show me how" and "let me try" approach when I teach public speaking. Glossophobia or the fear of Public Speaking is very real, and I have seen it firsthand in the hundreds of people I have mentored and coached. My approach is to showcase how to get rid of glossophobia, and then help them through persistent and deliberate practice, and positive and constructive feedback.
