I remember in school, English and literature teachers alway said “write about what you know” - well, when we were given writing assignments on things we learned in class, I still felt at a loss on how to write a good essay. Eventually, practice made perfect and words became inspirations. Is it that easy for everyone, though? Of course not. That’s probably why you’re reading this right now, which means, where there is a will, there is a way - and you my friend, are on your way to writing the best essays Moncton has ever read!
Generally, there are 6 simple steps you need to follow in writing a great essay:
As an essay must address the question directly, your first step should be to analyze the question. Make sure you know exactly what is being asked of you.
2. Define your Argument
Take an informed position or point of view on the topic presented in the question, then define and present a specific argument.
3. Use Evidence and Reasoning
To convince your audience of your argument, you must use evidence and reasoning from your findings.
4. Organize your thoughts Coherently
An essay has three basic components: an introduction, a body, and a conclusion.
5. Write Clearly
Clarity can be produced through careful revision and editing, which can turn a good essay into an excellent one.
6. Always Cite your Sources
This should be self explanatory - but, if you didn’t write it, cite it!
If you feel like you follow these steps but are still needing or wanting to improve, then maybe a little one on one tutoring could help you in your editing of assignments. In Moncton, you have options! Superprof editing (or redaction) pros are here to ease the stress and pain when it comes to writing. Not sure where you need help? Our tutors are personalized, that means, they can help you identify and improve on what you need. Moncton tutors with Superprof are local, consistent, and free for the first lesson (usually)! Why not book a session and watch your redaction skills soar.
Your life in Moncton, whether it be at school, at work, or maybe you just enjoy writing will be full of redaction and essays. There is no way to avoid it. But before you start jotting down ideas on a white board or typing away you need to be sure you know the 5 parts of an essay.
Part One: the intro. This is where you’ll have the foundation of the essay. In redaction, your introduction is what will keep the reader reading.
Part Two: The first paragraph. The first paragraph should contain your strongest, most valid point. Saving the best for the last is a principle that doesn’t apply when it comes to essay writing. Ensure you put across your strong point at the beginning of the paragraph.
Part Three: The second paragraph in the body should contain your second point supporting your thesis statement. The first statement should easily connect with the last statement you wrote. Ensure that your argument is compelling.
Part Four: The third paragraph. The third paragraph includes the third point meant to support your thesis statement. This can also include your weakest point. However, nobody has to know this. Write it in such a way that your reader will be left totally convinced of what you were trying to put across.
Part Five: The conclusion. This is the last part of an essay (of course). As this brings your paper together as one whole idea, it is important to restate the thesis statement given in the introduction. It is in this part that you get to summarize your main points. While the introduction is important in keeping readers glued to your essay, the conclusion should be captivating enough to ensure that readers are left with something to think about.
Have you ever heard of the phrase “readers are leaders?” Well, if you haven’t I can assure you that it’s true in many aspects but especially in redaction! The more you read works of literature and papers published by trusted authors and journals, the more you can see how to use grammar correctly while expanding your vocabulary. Did you know that in Moncton you have local redaction tutors at your fingertips? Just one hour of one-on-one tutoring with a redaction professional can help you master grammar skills for your next paper. Why not use all of the resources available to you? Our Moncton writing enthusiasts are passionate to help you be the best at redaction that your professor (or readers) have ever read. What are you waiting for?
