Book a guitar teacher in St. John's

Guitar lessons in St. John's typically cost about $46/h per hour.

Pricing depends on a few key elements:

• Your skill level (from first-timer to experienced player)
• Your tutor's background and credentials (conservatory training, performance history, teaching certifications)
• Session duration and how often you meet (half-hour, 45-minute, or full-hour sessions)
• The lesson format (face-to-face, webcam, or hybrid)

Many guitar teachers offer package discounts for booking multiple lessons upfront. Webcam lessons tend to be more affordable and eliminate travel time. A free introductory lesson lets you evaluate the tutor's approach risk-free.

The first steps in guitar are understanding your instrument, holding it correctly, keeping it in tune, and playing simple chords.

• Guitar anatomy: understanding terms like fret, nut, and bridge makes lessons much easier to follow.
• Posture and hand position: a relaxed grip and proper angle prevent strain and help your fingers move freely.
• Tuning: use a clip-on tuner or app until your ear develops; playing out of tune builds bad habits.
• Open chords: Em, G, C, D, and A are the foundation: they appear in thousands of songs.
• Strumming patterns: a steady down-up motion in time teaches rhythm and coordination.

These fundamentals create a strong platform for exploring styles like blues, rock, folk, or classical.

With a score of 5⭐ out of 5, guitar tutors in St. John's consistently receive excellent feedback.

The score comes from 6 authentic student evaluations.

This rule states that a minor pentatonic pattern shifted 3 frets lower becomes its relative major pentatonic.

• How it works: play Am pentatonic starting at fret 5, then slide the whole pattern to fret 2 for G major pentatonic.
• Why it matters: you only need to memorize one shape to access two scales.
• Musical context: blues, rock, and country players use this trick constantly for expressive solos.

Private lessons help you internalize this connection so switching scales becomes automatic.
