About Aston
I'm a final-year DPhil researcher in Biology at the University of Oxford and a member of Balliol College. Before Oxford, I completed a First Class degree in Biology at Royal Holloway, University of London, and I have several years of experience teaching advanced undergraduate Biology at Oxford.
Biology has been a major part of my life for over a decade, from studying it at A-Level through to working as a professional researcher. One of the things I enjoy most about teaching is helping someone move beyond simply remembering biological facts to genuinely understanding how and why something works.
I particularly enjoy the moment when a difficult idea finally clicks for a student. I try to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, getting things wrong and working through ideas aloud. I don't expect students to arrive already confident or to understand something simply because it has been explained once.
Alongside helping students achieve the grades they are working towards, I hope my lessons can help them become more confident in their own scientific thinking and, ideally, find Biology a little more interesting along the way.

My lessons are built around the individual student rather than a fixed teaching programme. I want to understand what you already know, where you are getting stuck, how you approach Biology questions, and what you want to achieve. From there, we can adapt each session to what will actually help you most.
Sometimes that means going back to the underlying Biology and finding a different way to explain a difficult concept. At other times, a student understands the content well but struggles to apply it to unfamiliar questions, interpret data, evaluate experiments, or communicate their reasoning clearly. I particularly enjoy helping students bridge that gap between knowing Biology and being able to use it.
For A-Level students, lessons can follow the topics currently being taught at school, focus on particular areas of difficulty, or concentrate on exam questions and scientific reasoning. I teach AQA and OCR Biology, with lessons normally lasting one hour.
I am a final-year DPhil researcher in Biology at the University of Oxford, with a First Class degree in Biology and several years of experience teaching advanced undergraduate Biology at Oxford, particularly through small-group and one-to-one tutorial teaching.
My aim is not simply to work through a syllabus or teach students to memorise mark schemes. I want students to develop a genuine understanding of Biology, become more confident reasoning through unfamiliar problems, and learn how to turn that understanding into strong exam answers.
