About Alyssa
I am a licensed Japanese teacher living in the Champaign-Urbana area. I have my bachelor's in Japanese language and literature, and my Iowa teaching license for Japanese (grades 5-12). I recently returned from teaching English in elementary and middle schools in Japan. I have also been a writing tutor for the University of Iowa, where I helped with various essays and other writing assignments. I have worked with age groups ranging from kindergarten all the way to 12th grade.

My teaching method focuses on communication- my goal is to help you reach a level where you can hold an every day conversation with Japanese speakers. My lessons will help you gain vocabulary and grammar that you can use in real-life situations. I put a strong focus on every day vocabulary, but I am also more than happy to help you gain vocabulary and grammar to talk about your passions or specialized topics. Culture is included in each lesson, as it is considered an essential part of language. I want you to be ready for daily life in Japan!
