I like to start off by asking the student what their plan is for learning. I will provide assistance and guide to homework, assignments, or preparation for assessments. I ensure engagement by actively listening to their needs and questions while studying their body language in order for me to reflect on the speed of my teaching. I can switch between English and Mandarin, and provide accurate translations and definitions for uncertain terms the student may have. I take pride in being a good communicator as I can simplify what I want to say and get the key points across without overcomplicating the idea. I make sure to keep an open mind and provide the student with a safe environment to ask questions freely. Last but not least, I believe active recall is a great way of learning, thus I will come prepared with mini-assessments to see what the student understands and where they are struggling. I hope to help students from the elementary level to the middle-school level.
