My study at UCLA started fall 1993. I was surprised at how difficult it is. You really have to have a commitment to learning the language. I have had many students who started out only to give up when they realized how difficult Japanese is. It really takes a big commitment to make this work.

When I teach Japanese now I use the textbooks we learned from at UCLA. I can tell you, again, that no matter how you want to learn it will be difficult. Difficult, but not impossible. You can do it!! You just have to work real hard!
