About Melodie
About Me: Hi! My name is Melodie. I am a professional tutor who teaches Musical Theater, and various other topics. I am a girl who personally LOVES Musical Theater. I am currently working on the show "Matilda" at my local theater. If you come to my class, I will tell you all about it!! I really love working with children and I always have. They are so smart, kind, and cute. They bring so much joy!! I believe that kids are gonna make the world a better place, and I am here to support them, teach them, and inspire them!!

My teaching method: It varies throughout the ages, but for 1st - 2nd, I start with play-based learning. We start singing fun and entertaining Disney songs, and learning some dance. 3rd - 5th, I use direct instruction that can go with whatever pace is best for your kiddo. We learn about stage directions and reading music. For 6th - 8th, I dive into theater vocabulary, and we read through challenging playwrights, like Shakespearean playwrights. We do Broadway dances and sing Broadway songs. We usually focus on the play "Newsies" in these grades. But for all grades, I 100% make personalized lessons. We also always do reviews of skills often. Typical Lesson Plan: If we are starting a new unit with a new subject we are learning about, a new song, or a new dance, I open up the class with a discussion. Then, I show them a slideshow for about 15 minutes, or we go over the music/dance. After this, we do an interactive activity. Even though this is virtual, I always make it a really fun & exciting activity for the children. For example, students are asked to write their own play, and record it for me. Then we review what we learned that day for about 5 minutes. Then finally, to wrap the lesson up, I like to give them an assignment. This all together takes about 45 mins. Then, I help them with whatever they want help with, or we work on songs/dances in the remainder of time. What sets me apart as a tutor: I really get to know the kiddos and care a lot about them. I always put in a ton of time to help them understand the topic/subject. I also always make lessons to fit their personal needs. Who the lessons are for: 1st - 8th grades...
