About Ying

At 33, Joerica has lived more lives than her passport can physically handle. She’s the kind of person who’s both too international to belong anywhere and too local to ever fully leave. Born in China, raised by ambition, and currently split between Los Angeles sun and Mexico’s Wi-Fi, she’s fluent in Mandarin, English, and existential dread. She started teaching Mandarin after realizing people didn’t just want a teacher; they wanted a translator for culture, sarcasm, and Chinese parents’ passive-aggressive compliments. Her students say she makes them laugh and learn; she says that’s because she teaches the way she lives, dramatically, rhythmically. When she’s not teaching, she’s designing, writing, recording, or reinventing.

Hey there! I’m a native Mandarin speaker who’s spent years traveling, teaching, and connecting with people from all kinds of backgrounds. I’ve realized that learning a language isn’t about memorizing words
it’s about feeling the rhythm of how people really speak, laugh, and connect.

I’ve been switching between Mandarin and English my whole life, so I know exactly how to help you cross that bridge smoothly. My classes are for real life ,not just textbooks. We’ll talk the way people actually talk in Beijing, Shanghai, or Taipei , with slang, humor, and all those subtle tones that make Mandarin feel alive.

Because I’ve traveled so much, I love weaving in stories from different cultures and teaching you how language connects people beyond words. Whether you’re learning for travel, work, or pure curiosity, I’ll tailor our sessions to your personality. Some lessons feel like deep conversations, others like coffee chats with a side of vocabulary.

Teaching Mandarin started as a passion, something I did just to share what I love and it’s grown into my profession. Over the years, I’ve worked with students from beginners to advanced speakers, helping them build confidence, not just fluency.
