About ASL
Deaf since birth, I've gone to Model Secondary School for the Deaf, then NTID, Gallaudet University. Studied ASL & Deaf Culture/History for 7 years. Taken 100s of ASLTA (American Sign Language Teacher of Association) workshops and certifications. Completed Tutoring Level 1, Tutoring Level 2, Tutoring Level 3 which is a Master Tutor certification from Clackamas Community College. Studied Language Hunter (a TPR method of learning languages that is going extinct) and it follows the ACTFL guidelines. I've taken learning disability classes to help modify materials that focus on students' strengths and creating right brain activities that help connect the dots between the logical/language hemisphere with the creative right brain hemisphere.

After 28 years of using all standard ASL textbooks, workbooks, videos - I learned that I had to make a lot of supplemental resources tailored to each students with unique skills & challenges as it's never a one size fits all. I use the floating curriculum philosophy.
I have problem solved numerous of hidden issues that mainstreamed ASL teachers or poorly trained or untrained tutors overlook, deny or are indifferent. I make complicated mind numbing ASL linguistic notes into manageable right brain chunk that's easier and fun to digest.
I'm also trained to use TPR (Total Physical Response) method for beginners which has a high rate of success.
Most schools also teach academic ASL which confuses the students and I help clarify the differences of what standard ASL looks like along with Deaf Culture norms.

Perfect! We home school and my son needs a foreign language credit. I appreciate how she communicates with me via email regarding how he's doing and the timely responses when I email her with questions. She's patient and enthusiastic about teaching ASL and it's apparent in the response my son has for the class. He looks forward to the meetings and enjoys learning a new language. Thank you for your patience RaVen!
Perfect! If you want someone who really teaches you ASL, it is her! She signs so beautifully and has an organized way of assessing strengths and weaknesses and knows exactly what you need to work on to improve your ASL skills. HIGHLY recommend.
Excellent! Having a Deaf tutor who will practice ASL with me will help me better become an interpreter.
- Kaylee has a lot of enthusiasm, motivation and takes her studies seriously. I appreciate her drive to improve her fingertalking skills, ASL grammar structure & time management to juggle so many responsibilities at the same time. Great going!See the response ASL :
