About Rosaleen
Hi, I'm Rosaleen!
I am a passionate English tutor with over six years of experience helping students of all ages build confidence, improve fluency, and genuinely enjoy learning English! I hold a degree from McGill University and have spent years teaching English both through one-on-one tutoring and international volunteer programs across Canada, the UK, and Spain.
Having completed multiple intensive language immersion programs myself (currently learning French! ), I know first-hand how intimidating it can feel to express yourself in a new tongue. To me, teaching is about helping people find their voice. More often than not, it’s not that we lack the skills to speak, but rather that we lack the self-confidence. I've been in your shoes, and I know just how vital it is to have someone in your corner creating a safe, zero-pressure space to take risks.
For those of you who are already fluent, I hope I haven't lost you yet! I find the power of written and spoken expression so fascinating, so I'm often found nose-deep in a book, spotting symbolism in the mundane, or researching current events as an independent journalist. That deep love for language is exactly what drives my work with fluent students, elevating academic essays, revising literary analysis, or line-editing high-stakes applications (like CASPer, MCAT personal statements, university admissions, and resumes).
If you (or your child) are naturally shy, please don't worry at all! So many of my students start off quiet or hesitant. I take pride in building a warm, environment where even the most reserved learners quickly feel comfortable opening up, chatting, and asking questions freely. I also bring extensive experience supporting neurodivergent learners (including those with ADHD and Autism), adapting every lesson to how your brain works best.
(When I’m not teaching or editing, you’ll usually find me listening to the BBC Global News podcast, crocheting, or playing a game of chess! ♟️)

Everyone comes to English with completely different goals! Whether you are learning English as a second language, striving for top marks in your coursework, or working through high-stakes university applications, my sessions are divided into three tailored streams so you get the exact support you need:
STREAM 1: ESL & ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS
For non-native speakers building real-world confidence, vocabulary, and conversational fluency. Classes may look as follows:

b. Casual & Conversational: Low-pressure, relaxed chat around topics you actually enjoy (films, current events, recipes, or everyday memes!).
c. 50/50 Hybrid: Open conversation in the first half, followed by structured textbook/workbook practice in the second half.
Stream 2: Academic English & Essay Support
For students who already speak English fluently, but need help excelling in English classes and academic writing.
a. Essay & Thesis Structuring: Organizing complex ideas, crafting strong thesis statements, and writing clear, persuasive body paragraphs.
b. Literary Analysis & Reading Comprehension: Breaking down difficult texts, poetry, and assignment prompts step-by-step.
c. Clarity & Argument Flow: Moving beyond basic grammar rules to elevate your academic tone and writing style.
️ Stream 3: Application, Essay & High-Stakes Editing
For students and pre-professional candidates submitting critical applications or major writing projects.
a. Specialized Application Editing: Experienced line-by-line review for CASPer test responses, MCAT personal statements, university and college admissions essays, and scholarship letters.
b. Career Documents: Editing for resumes, CVs, and cover letters tailored to your target programs or jobs.
c. Live Collaborative Editing: We work through your drafts together on-screen in real time, refining narrative flow and clarity while keeping your authentic voice front and center.
