About Yingxue

I'm a Master's student in research about HIV glycoprotein and I have a double-major undergraduate degree in medical cell biology and genetics. I also have 2 years of research experience in medical biophysics and 1 year in molecular pathology. I studied many areas of biology because I love learning how cells work in context of the amazing human body:)

About the lesson

My number one teaching method is first engage my student(s) by explaining why a subject or a topic they are learning is important and interesting. For example, before introducing the DNA repair mechanisms, I tell the student(s) about how important they are in cell replication and preventing cancer, which affects millions. Secondly, I like to create interactive learning environment for students by encouraging thinking and questioning. Students are more likely to remember information if they ask the questions themselves rather than being told the information. Next, after going over the contents, I like to give a quick case study on the relevant topics. Finally, I make structured knowledge maps that summarize the key points in each topic and link multiple topics together. I enjoy helping high school students because they not only need to do well in classes but also to make important decision going into post-secondary programs. I genuinely love to help them in their course work as a teacher and share my first-hand undergraduate and graduate experiences as a mentor/peer.
