About Roxana
I started out as a volunteer peer tutor at Western Canada High School, in Calgary, teaching the other students in my classes. We would sit in the cafeteria, after school, and chat and work on our homework together. It was fun. My classmates would ask me questions they felt apprehensive about asking our teachers in class, in front of other students. I still aim to make my students feel that comfortable with me that they're able to ask me anything. Perhaps they might even relax and enjoy themselves, as I did, back in the day, sitting in the caf, with my classmates.
I have a B.Sc. in Mathematics from Simon Fraser University, and teach all levels of mathematics, but particularly from junior high school to first year of university. I was a French Immersion student, and I am happy to teach in either French or English. I work in person and online from Metro Vancouver.

I always explain why things works as they do. Math is important, but it is also interesting and should be enjoyable, as well. I feel that the thing that makes math both fun and fascinating is also what enables us to understand it better: knowing the reasons it works as it does. Formulas and lists are easily forgotten, but the reasons behind them are much easier to remember. I always, always explain the reasons for the solutions.
